A radical new perspective on temporary works design

Temporary Works

At the heart of our service is a team of specialist engineers, vastly experienced in designing, planning and implementing temporary works schemes of all sizes and complexity. We provide first class engineering design solutions to construction projects associated with buildings, bridges, geotechnical, marine, refurbishment, rail, infrastructure and demolition.

We offer a range of key services within these sectors, including temporary works design and checks, feasibility studies, appraisal of existing structures, value engineering, advice on construction methods and lifting operations.

There isn’t a piece of equipment designed for use in temporary works that we don’t know how to get the most out of, whether it’s to be used on a small construction project or a complex civil engineering scheme. When we design temporary works, you are guaranteed innovative, cost efficient and most importantly contractor friendly results, whatever the method we choose to adopt.

Working with the team at PDMA you will soon understand our capabilities and our extensive experience in the design and use of reinforced, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete, steel, masonry, timber, aluminium and geotechnical structures. As you would expect we only use the latest software and applications to facilitate design and detailing, including complex finite element analysis when appropriate.

The successful delivery of projects relies on our ability to combine technical expertise, commercial awareness and project management skills, with a genuine understanding of each client’s unique needs.

Our extensive knowledge of engineering design and construction methods influences our design of temporary works and often provides our clients with alternative permanent works design and construction processes, saving them time and money.

As a result, there are no elements of temporary works (or indeed permanent works) that we cannot undertake. PDMA offers a genuine ‘one stop shop’ for your consultancy needs, happy to provide as little or as much as you need to get the job done, whether it’s temporary works design, permanent works design or a combination of the two.

The term ‘value engineering’ is often used to demonstrate how costs can be reduced, often by specifying cheaper components and should not be confused with our approach of ‘engineering the value’. We assess the viability of alternative structural forms, taking advantage of residual strength of buildings when considering alterations to help reduce costs through experience and innovation, not lowering specifications.
