Our team was commissioned by HS Carlsteel to provide a design for a galvanised welded steel access platform from each of the Thames Barrier intermediate piers to the adjacent rotating gate.
The platforms were required for general maintenance and had to be retracted when the barrier was in use or on standby. It was not possible to use lifting equipment to install the platforms so all components were man-handled into position and installed using light tools.
We designed all components to be manufactured off site then bolted together in-situ. The platforms pivot on a hinge so that they can be lowered down for use then raised when not in use.
